“Worldly Girls” Summer Camp for Middle School Girls

Worldly Girls for Middle School Girls is a week-long camp focusing on the principal of “Who am I and what is my place in this world?”  Through self-exploration, girls will learn techniques that will allow for creative expression through collage, poetry, painting, and journaling.  Deeper exploration of self and place, not only within the community but also the surrounding world, will unfold through research skills and map exploration, cultivating a sense of diversity and culture. A Story About Rediscovering Hope

Remember our story of one of our participants at the Pretrial Detention Facility who modified her tattoos from “love” and “hate” to “love” and “hope”? We want to share this photo with you! This is an actual photograph of her hands.

“I had no hope for my future,” she told us. Through poetry therapy sessions with Hope at Hand, she began to cultivate a new outlook on her life. “I didn’t want negative words on my body anymore,” she said. Since we first shared her story last December, she is no longer incarcerated and she is working hard to put her life back together.

We love sharing these amazing stories and your support directly impacts the lives of so many just like this young woman. Thank you for standing alongside her and others like her in their journeys. If you’re looking for a way to be involved, we have several opportunities for you. You can learn more about them at our Get Involved page.

Attention Jaguars Fans!

jags-give-and-go Hope at Hand is now registered with the Jacksonville Jaguars Give and Go fundraising opportunity. The Jaguars will make a donation for each ticket you purchase by clicking here. One or one hundred – it all adds up!

All donations collected through Give and Go will support our project to benefit the struggling students attending John E. Ford K-8 School. Our plan is to add daily art, poetry therapy, yoga and mental health counseling next school year to reduce behavior referrals and increase learning gains.

Corporate ticket packages are also available ranging from $2,000 – $15,000. Contact Leah Donelan (390-3222 • ldonelan@nonprofitctr.org) at the Nonprofit Center of NE FL with questions or to register for a package!

You can be a part of this project!

Thank you as always for helping children and teens in crisis at places like PACE Center for Girls, Department of Juvenile Justice, Pretrial Detention Facility, Hubbard House, Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless and many more across northeast Florida.

One Spark Re-cap

onesparkThank you to our more than 50 volunteers and their collective 65 hours of work in making our inaugural appearance at One Spark such a great success!

Thank you to everyone who turned out to vote as well! Out of the 600 projects in our category, Hope at Hand finished 32nd in funds raised with a total of over $1,000. Thanks to our partnering with John E. Ford K-8 School, UNF Brooks College of Health, and Montessori Tides School, we were able to share our mission and gain great local exposure in the community.

Let’s keep going; let’s keep sharing hope with the ones who really need it!

A New Year of Hope

hope-loveA really amazing thing happened with one of our incarcerated female juveniles this year. On one hand, her fingers were tattooed with LOVE and the other, HATE. As the year progressed, we noticed that HATE had been modified to HOPE. Facilitator Stephanie Durham asked her about the change and she shared that through the Hope at Hand sessions, she now has hope when before she had none. She said she no longer wanted negative words on her body.

2013 was truly an amazing year. We were able to partner with organizations like Hubbard House, Gateway Community Services, PACE Center for Girls, and many others across Northeast Florida to provide services for 2500 elders, women, children and teens. (Click here for a full list of our impact partners.)
